Owner/Coach

My first exposure to CrossFit was in 2019 at age 39 and I have been an active member of CrossFit Tempest since. Prior to CrossFit did not consider myself as an athletic type of person. I had tried various different workout programs over the years but couldn’t stick with any of them. CrossFit was the first platform where I was challenged in different ways, motivated to work harder, and learn more.

The community at CrossFit Tempest has supported me, developed my skills, and pushed me forward giving me the best fitness level in my life. After two and a half years of attending classes I made the decision to take my CrossFit experience to the next level and became a Level 1 coach.

As a “typical” and “average” person I look forward to working with new members to start their journey at CrossFit Tempest teaching them that CrossFit is for anyone at any fitness level. I am also looking forward to working with experienced members to continue challenging them and honing their skills taking them to the next level.

I have always been a runner. I’ve done multiple marathons and half-marathons and always felt I have been in good shape. However, in the spring of 2018 I overtrained and developed knee pain. Despite therapy, I couldn’t run without pain. A few months later, a friend talked me in to trying CrossFit. I admit I was hesitant, however, I found I could do the workouts without pain and enjoyed the camaraderie of the CrossFit community. Everyone is supportive and encouraging. I loved how the varied workouts challenged me, and I have transformed into a stronger version of myself. I also now run pain free. CrossFit is challenging but worth the effort! As an Orthopedic Surgeon, I understand how important regular exercise and sound nutrition are to being healthy. I decided to become a CrossFit coach because I believe that this type of workout is the best way to continually improve your fitness, and I want to help others achieve their goals. Both as a surgeon and CrossFit coach I am encouraging people every day to get and stay fit. Everyone knows they need to exercise and what poor diet and activity choices do to you. But it is hard to get and stay motivated and consistent to exercise over months and years. The CrossFit workouts are never repetitive, so they don’t get boring or become easy, and the community is so great and supportive that you want to keep coming. I enjoy coaching others to develop the skills they will use to stay healthy for a lifetime.

I first discovered CrossFit in 2018 after spending years looking for a gym or group workout that could keep me interested and motivated. I was hooked after just one class! As a Nurse and a Veteran, I understand the significance of a healthy and active lifestyle. I enjoy how CrossFit provides a wide variety of options and continues to challenge me both physically and mentally. It never gets easier, because you get stronger and can always do more. In 2022 I earned my CrossFit Level-1 Training Certificate so I can help others learn to love CrossFit as much as I do! I enjoy helping others of any age and physical ability strengthen their mind and body! Watching a member achieve something new or set a new personal record is priceless. CrossFit Tempest is a community of athletes who see greatness within you and will motivate you to become the best version of yourself!

I am a mom to 4 boys and have always enjoyed being active. As a former high school and collegiate athlete, I thrive on the friendly competition that comes from working out with others. It keeps me motivated to keep pushing and trying to improve, or learn new skills. But I also love how your competitors are also your biggest cheerleaders, encouraging you when you do learn that new skill, or PR that lift. It's such great community. Running has always been my 'thing' but when a hip injury slowed me down I was feeling lost and frustrated. A few friends kept inviting me to try CrossFit and I finally gave in! I have never been a 'weights' person, but I fell in love! I didn't even know what half the moves were, but with great coaches leading and helping me, I grew as an athlete. Yeah, I'm old but I'm not giving up that title just yet.  I love the community and that every workout can be scaled to your own level. I found there were things I was good at and things where I STILL struggle, but it doesn't matter. I'm getting a great workout and seeing results because I work hard and changed my diet. I got my L1 certificate to help others see results too!

After my freshman year of college, I decided I NEEDED to make a lifestyle change. I felt tired, lacked energy, and didn’t like the way I looked. I was not taking care of my body and certainly was not fueling it properly, either. I began exercising on my own before I started to join my friends at the gym. I also developed a love for running and started to look forward to working out because I was seeing amazing results! After taking a step back from any weight training and several months of loggings miles upon miles, I began to see my body start to change again. I didn’t feel like I had strength or looked like I had muscle. I knew of some people in my hometown who were working with a trainer doing CrossFit in a garage. They were all very fit and strong, so I decided I wanted to give it a try. I started CrossFit in a garage in May of 2016 and instantly realized it was exactly what I had been looking for. I had so much fun completing workouts that incorporated strength and “cardio” exercises that I never knew existed. I began to look and feel stronger, but most importantly I loved the way my body felt after I put my all into each workout. After 5 years of consistently completing CrossFit workouts in various gyms, both commercial and CrossFit, I decided to get my L-1 in 2021 then started coaching in 2022. The camaraderie of CrossFit is unmatched and made me excited to become a coach. CrossFit is designed to help us move better in our everyday lives, so I am passionate about sharing my love of CrossFit. I want people to know that no matter what you can or can’t do, CrossFit has something for you!

I grew up in the town of Salem, SD. I loved being outside, spending time with family, and playing sports. I was just going to a regular gym to workout. I have never heard of CrossFit until a friend asked me to do a partner competition in October of 2018. That competition changed my life and I have been doing CrossFit ever since. I continue to compete in competitions both partner/ team and induvial. CrossFit gives me the opportunity to challenge myself not only physical but mentally as well. CrossFit is a true community where friendships are made. When I joined CrossFit Tempest, I also joined a family. I got my Level-1 CrossFit Certification in January of 2023. I enjoy helping people find parts of themselves that they ever thought they had both physical and mentally. I love guiding people to find that new skill, honing a movement, and hit that new personal record.
